Monster Hunter Wilds: A guide to all Mantles and how to get them

Our guide to all Mantles and their effects in Monster Hunter Wilds, including the Rocksteady Mantle and the Corrupted Mantle.

As in past Monster Hunter games, Mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds are special tools that give your hunter specific boons when worn. All Mantles have a set duration and recharge time, and are acquired after completing certain parts of the main story. Here are all the available mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds and their uses:

Ghillie Mantle

How to get it: Acquired after completing Chapter 1-2 of the main story

Duration: 120 seconds (or until you attack or get hit)

Recharge time: 300 seconds

As the first mantle you get, the Ghille Mantle lets you conceal yourself from monsters. This allows you to get in close for a sneak attack (it can also help you get near enough to capture small endemic life like Dung Beetles), set up traps like Barrel Bombs or Shock Traps, or escape a dire situation.

While the Ghillie Mantle is one of the two mantles with the longest duration (the other being the Corrupted Mantle), you can freeze the timer on the Ghillie Mantle by remaining stationary. Combining stealth tactics (i.e. waiting in tall grass) and standing still will allow you to stay invisible longer and stalk your prey over long distances.

Rocksteady Mantle

How to get it: Acquired from Gemma after completing Chapter 2-4

Duration: 90 seconds

Recharge time: 600 seconds

Moving on to defense, the Rocksteady Mantle reduces damage taken, prevents damage reactions from being attacked, and grants protection from wind pressure, roars, and tremors. You won’t realize how useful the Rocksteady Mantle is until you take it off. Being able to shrug off stun effects such as roars and damage reactions helps decrease the downtime during a quest and allows you to focus on hunting a monster.

That said, certain armor pieces, decorations, and buffs can provide the same advantages as Rocksteady Mantle but with little to no downtime and don’t take up a mantle slot. As such, the Rocksteady Mantle loses some of its effectiveness in the latter parts of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Mending Mantle

How to get it: Acquired from Gemma after completing Chapter 3-3

Duration: 60 seconds

Recharge time: 600 seconds

Probably the least useful mantle, the Mending Mantle constantly restores your health for 60 seconds. While the passive healing provided can be helpful in the middle of a fight, there are better alternatives that heal just as much at a faster rate with almost no cooldowns.

Evasion Mantle

How to get it: Acquired from Gemma after completing Chapter 4-3

Duration: 90 seconds

Recharge time: 600 seconds

Wearing the Evasion Mantle doesn’t just increase the evasion window for dodging; it also boosts your damage and unlocks new combos for certain weapons. Players who frequent fast-hitting weapons like the Bow, Insect Glaive, and Dual Blades will love the Evasion Mantle as the extra invincibility frames and damage build upon their established playstyles.

Corrupted Mantle

How to get it: Acquired from Gemma after completing Chapter 5-2

Duration: 120 seconds

Recharge time: 600 seconds

The Corrupted Mantle is a must for those who want to maximize their damage and shorten their quest run times. Wearing the Corrupted Mantle will slowly drain your health, but you will get a massive Affinity and weapon damage bonus in exchange. Continuously performing successful attacks on a monster increases the bonuses, which further incentivizes an aggressive playstyle.

While fast weapons like the Dual Blades allow you to get the affinity and weapon bonuses quicker, almost any weapon can benefit from the Corrupted Mantle as long as you consistently land successful hits on a monster. If you’re having trouble negating the health drain, consider bringing more healing items or wearing special gear that can minimize this undesirable side effect.

With the exception of the Ghillie Mantle which has a dedicated equipment slot, Mantles can be equipped by going to your Tent in any of your Base Camps or Pop-up Camps. Go to ‘Equipment Menu’ then ‘Change Equipment’. At the very bottom of the ‘Change Equipment’ section is the equipment slot reserved for one of your four Mantles. Make sure to choose the right mantle for the job and you’ll be taking on quests faster than normal.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
