Marvel Rivals Mr. Fantastic guide: How to deal more damage
As Marvel Rivals’ latest Duelist, Mr. Fantastic can be tricky to get accustomed to. His primary melee attacks are quite slow compared to the rest of the cast, and most of his abilities involve either crowd control or increasing survivability (which are more in line with what a Vanguard does). But by adapting to his unique playstyle, you can achieve a lot more with Mr. Fantastic than it may seem at first.
Remember to jiggle-hit enemies
While Mr. Fantastic’s Stretch Punch primary attack may seem lackluster due to its slow rate of fire and small direct hitbox, its real strength lies in its ability to hit multiple enemies. When Stretch Punch is at its maximum length, players can move the crosshair to direct a prolonged attack. This makes Stretch Punch exceptional at hitting groups of enemies or redirecting the attack toward a missed target.
You might want to consider increasing your mouse or controller sensitivity to get the most out of Stretch Punch, as it increases how quickly you can move your crosshair in a wide angle. You’ll never have to worry about missing an invisible Psylocke as long as she’s within your melee range.
The Flexible Elongation indicator shows your melee range
Since Mr. Fantastic’s fists are his primary attacks, his melee range is understandably longer than that of other heroes. As such, turning on Display Attack Range in the Options menu won’t cut it.
Instead, you’ll want to pay attention to the Flexible Elongation indicator in the middle of the screen. The ability has the same range as Mr. Fantastic’s Stretch Punch, making it easy to gauge whether your attacks will hit or not. Only Distended Grip has slightly more range, but that ability is used for grabbing enemies. Make a habit of checking your indicator before attacking, as whiffing any of Mr. Fantastic’s moves leaves him open to counterattacks.
Get to the Inflated state whenever possible
Using any of Mr. Fantastic’s abilities contributes to his Elastic Strength passive, which increases his damage and, upon reaching full Elasticity, activates an Inflated state that further increases his damage and survivability. The best way to deal more damage as Mr. Fantastic is to use your abilities liberally on your allies and enemies to get to the Inflated state faster.
For example: before a battle begins, you can use two charges of Flexible Elongation to pull yourself towards an ally and provide them with a shield. Not only does this increase their overall survivability, but it also gives you 30 Elasticity points per use. While Elasticity points decrease after a short time, starting a fight with 60 points leaves you with only 40 points left to gain before triggering the Inflated state’s 100-point requirement.
Take note that while the Inflated state increases Mr. Fantastic’s damage and turns you into a bonafide Vanguard almost on par with Bruce Banner/ The Hulk, he will only be able to perform melee attacks with reduced range until the time limit expires or the state is manually deactivated.
The Brainiac Bounce ultimate is more for slows and not eliminations
As a Duelist, you’ll be forgiven for thinking that Mr. Fantastic’s Brainiac Bounce is for wiping out the enemy team. While it can certainly do so given the right conditions, the ultimate is best used as a distraction and to slow enemies so your teammates can pick them off.
Brainiac Bounce’s first attack does 50 damage, with each subsequent bounce adding more damage, up to a maximum of 100. The problem with the bounces is that there is so much time between them that the enemy team can easily outheal the damage being done.
What they can’t easily do, however, is avoid the wide range of your bounces. By keeping them preoccupied and slowed simultaneously, you’ll create space for your team to push and capitalize on the mayhem. To further increase your survivability during Brainiac Bounce, activate the Inflated state before using the ultimate.
Mr. Fantastic works best in tight areas
As with most melee-based characters, Mr. Fantastic excels in areas that are cramped or where enemies are grouped. Using Distended Grip to pull enemies either towards you or together and following up with a couple of Stretch Punches is a great way to build Elasticity quickly.
When the enemy team starts to overwhelm you, make sure to provide your teammates with shields using Flexible Elongation and absorb oncoming damage with Reflexive Rubber. Reflexive Rubber’s usefulness cannot be understated as it can also take certain ultimate attacks and launch them back. An enemy Iron Man trying to wipe your team with his Invincible Pulse Cannon will think twice when you absorb the ultimate and throw it back at him.
Mr. Fantastic is a Duelist-Vanguard hybrid that has the potential to turn the traditional 2 Vanguard- 2 Duelist- 2 Strategist meta on its head. You need to adopt the responsibilities of both a Duelist and a Vanguard to make the most out of him, but once you do, you’ll be able to take advantage of a lot more creative team compositions.
