Elden Ring DLC: What happens to Mohg in Shadow of the Erdtree?
By now, many people already know of Radahn’s role as Miquella’s consort in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. But what of Mohg, the second of the two required bosses that need to be defeated to access the DLC in the first place? Those who have made it to the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree’s main campaign would have already met Mohg, though not in the way they were expecting.
Mohg’s body has become a vessel for Radahn
In the Land of Shadow, Mohg’s defeated husk of a body has been taken over by his half-brother, Radahn. After being tricked by Miquella into absconding with the latter’s Empyrean flesh, Mohg returned to Mohgwyn Palace where he continued to make blood sacrifices to Miquella’s body in hopes that he would one day rise as Miquella’s consort. What Mohg didn’t know was that Miquella was planning the same thing, only with Radahn at his side instead.
Since Radahn’s body in the Lands Between was inflicted with Scarlet Rot (a unique malady bestowed by Malenia), he needed to inhabit a new body once he reached the Land of Shadow – a place where the dead coalesce. Since Miquella knew of Malenia and Radahn’s fight beforehand (Malenia was in on Miquella’s plan to ascend to godhood), he planned for Mohg to take the fall at the hands of the Tarnished.
One of Promised Consort Radahn’s attacks hints at Mohg’s fate
The biggest tell that Radahn is inhabiting Mohg’s body in the Land of Shadow is the Bloodflame Slash attack that he occasionally performs during his boss fight. Unlike Radahn’s other moves, which are physical or gravity-based, Bloodflame Slash is one of Mohg’s signature attacks that causes hemorrhaging. The attack becomes more pronounced when Promised Consort Radahn goes into his second form, Radahn, Consort of Miquella, and adds holy attacks to his moveset. Bloodflame Slash is Radahn’s only attack with blood properties and hints that Mohg’s body is being inhabited by the demigod.
Mohg’s story has taken quite a turn in Shadow of the Erdtree. While many believed he kidnapped Miquella from the Lands Between, the events of the DLC explain how Mohg was influenced to aid Miquella in the latter’s ascent to godhood. All that remains of the Lord of Blood in the DLC is one of his blood arts that is used by his half-brother Radahn.
