With favorable Animal Crossing comparisons, Hello Kitty Island Adventure racks up positive Steam reviews and sells over 500,000 copies in its first month

Since its launch on January 30, Hello Kitty Island Adventure has been gathering momentum as a serious rival to Nintendo's Animal Crossing.

Developer Sunblink revealed that Hello Kitty Island Adventure sold a combined total of over 500,000 copies on Nintendo Switch and PC in its first month. The news comes from Nintendo Everything, and takes the game’s January 30 release date on the aforementioned platforms into account.

Much like Animal Crossing, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a life simulation title that has players exploring and customizing their island while interacting with famous Sanrio characters like Cinnamoroll, Kuromi, and the titular Hello Kitty. The game’s live service nature ensures a constant stream of fresh content, and it is currently in the middle of its Springtime Celebration event.

Over on Steam, Hello Kitty Island Adventure boasts a “Very Positive” rating based on 3,403 user reviews, with players praising its aesthetics, music, and addictive gameplay loops. Some even go so far as to say Hello Kitty Island Adventure features better quests and character interactions than Animal Crossing, and is more relaxing as you don’t have to pay off any mortgages to Tom Nook.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available on iOS, macOS, Apple TV, Nintendo Switch, and Windows. A physical Nintendo Switch version is set to launch on March 25.
