Valve announced on November 12 that it will be reviving the Steam Machine, their gaming hardware, with a brand-new model. The new gaming computer is planned to start shipping in early 2026, with more specific details, including the exact price, to be revealed after the turn of the year.
The new Steam Machine is a gaming PC running on SteamOS, and is likely imagined as a successor to the original Steam Machine developed, launched and discontinued in the 2010s. Much like the Steam Deck, the hardware will be optimized for playing Steam games, offering a new option for users to utilize their Steam libraries.

The Steam Machine is positioned as a powerful and versatile piece of hardware that allows you to play PC games on the big screen. The computer case is a 6-inch (160mm) cube, and due to its compact size and reduced noise, it can easily be placed under the TV, on tables, or pretty much anywhere in your preferred gaming environment. The PC uses the Arch Linux-based SteamOS as its operating system and utilizes Proton, which means Windows games will also be playable on it.
Looking at its specs, it seems the Steam Machine will be more than 6 times stronger than the Steam Deck. When it comes to internal storage (SSD), the PC will be available in two different models – the 514GB and 2TB model, both equipped with a micro-SD card slot for expanded storage. Detailed hardware specifications are as follows:

The Steam Machine is going to be sold bundled with the newly announced Steam Controller, but will also be available separately. Using the new Steam Controller, players will be able to directly boot up the Steam Machine. Of course, Valve’s upcoming PC will also work with other controllers, accessories and PC peripherals. Additionally, Steam Machine comes with a customizable LED bar which reflects system status (downloads, booting, updating) and can be personalized with different colors and lighting animations.
