Hey there, brothers and sisters in Japan, the United States, and all over the world.  I’d like to introduce you to Girlfailure Art Club, a dating sim I’ve been making as a hobby.

The player (you) accidentally joins the art club after picking the wrong club… and ends up being toyed with by four quirky otaku girls. Which one of them do you like?(evil grin) While Girlfailure Art Club features four main heroines, it seems that only three of them – Shoko, Kana, and Rinne – are romanceable. While Girlfailure Art Club features four main heroines, it seems that only three of them – Shoko, Kana, and Rinne – are romanceable. The fourth girl and president of the art club, Yurie, is a diehard Yumejoshi (self-shipper), who pairs herself with the fictional character  Tobari Kyoya from the in-game manga Home Problem Hitman Deborn (which are parodies of the character Hibari Kyoya and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! manga series by real author Akira Amano, respectively). Given that you are nowhere near as charismatic as Tobari, Yurie will not respond to your romantic advances.

That said, Shoko, Kana, and Rinne have their own unique quirks and personalities. Shoko is an upperclassman and vice president of the art club who likes gag shonen manga and loves making quirky comebacks. Kana is an underclassman with anim-esque catchprases  like “au au” and “nano-desu” and has aspirations of becoming a voice actress (she also falls head over heels for you at first sight, nicknaming you “Prince Senpai”). Lastly, Rinne is your silent and stoic classmate who draws by herself and is obsessed with art subculture and the underground scene.

Girlfailure Art Club’s themes were inspired by Todoki’s experiences as an art club member in elementary, high school, and university. When they realized that there were no games that filled this niche, they took it upon themselves to make a game that reflected this particular part of his school life. Uka has been working on Girlfailure Art Club in secret while balancing their other activities. The game’s character designs are being handled by Todoki themselves, while manga artist  Kaga Tanaka is helping with the artwork.

Developed alongside the Japanese indie game brand Artodria, Girlfailure Art Club is currently in development, with a Steam page coming soon.
