Japanese solo indie game dev Neruneko has launched the Steam page for their upcoming comedy horror point-and-click 3D adventure title Hyakushaku-sama. Riffing off the Japanese urban legend of the Hachishaku-sama (roughly translated to “Ms. Eight Feet Tall”), the game forgoes any sense of dread the original myth had by putting you and a hundred-foot-tall woman in strange and outlandish situations.
Instead of the original Hachishaku-sama, who, according to legend, is supposed to prey on young children, Hyakushaku-sama (roughly translated to “Ms. Hundred Feet Tall”) is 12 times larger and has nowhere to hide.
You play as a college student who travels to visit his grandparents in the countryside. Unbeknownst to you, the village is said to house a giant woman who was sealed away for kidnapping young men. Though your grandparents are aware of Hyakushaku-sama’s existence, the fact that she has been sealed off for 70 years makes them think it is safe enough for you to visit. Sure enough, you encounter the hundred-foot-tall woman on your first day, and as night falls, all sorts of crazy shenanigans follow.

There seems to be no end to the ways the game can surprise you. In the trailer alone, you have the protagonist’s grandfather luring Hyakushaku-sama by dancing on a moving car, preparing what looks to be several meals to satiate the massive woman, and avoiding her big hands (one of which is holding a giant baguette for some reason) while hiding in a traditional Japanese home. As unique as the game is, however, Neruneko disclosed that they used generative AI to create a portion of the textures used in the environments.
Hachishaku-sama is played with just a mouse and can be completed in 20 minutes. In an era of games with multiple endings, it’s quite refreshing to be able to see all of this title’s “surreal horror and comedy” content in a single run.
Hachishaku-sama is set to release in 2026 for Windows (Steam). Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any other language support other than Japanese for the time being.
