Upcoming anime adaptation of adult VN game Nukitashi will be Kadokawa’s “biggest challenge to date”
The official X account for Nukitashi the Animation, an adaptation of the adult-oriented visual novel game Nukitashi, recently published comments from the anime’s production committee. Of note is the statement from Kadokawa that the adaptation will be their most challenging undertaking in their long history of producing anime.
Developed and published by Qruppo, Nukitashi is an eroge/VN first released on PC in 2018. Nukitashi is short for the game’s much longer full name, which translates to “What’s a Flat-Chested Girl Like Me to Do on an Island Straight Out of a Porn Game?” In the game, you play as Junnosuke Tachibana who returns to the sex-obsessed tropical island of Seiren, determined to rid it of a certain law (the game is a surprisingly deep dive into the island’s customs, combined with absurd situations). The first game got an English release in 2023, with its 2019 sequel Nukitashi 2 coming out earlier this year. Both games have an Overwhelmingly Positive review rating on Steam.
Nukitashi the Animation was first announced back in January, but the recently publicized comments from the production committee indicate that the companies involved (Kadokawa, AT-X, Yostar and original dev Qruppo) seem to be finding it fun but difficult to adapt a quirky, innuendo-packed game about an island where sex is mandatory.
Kadokawa described the anime as “their biggest challenge to date,” adding that “right now, we really don’t know how it is going to turn out, so we hope you will keep watching to the end.” Likewise, AT-X describes the adaptation as “unprecedented.”
The comments from the other companies on the anime committee are humorous in tone and Qruppo’s in particular is packed with sexual puns playing on alternative readings of the kanji characters (reflecting the games’ innuendo-packed dialogue). Blue Archive publisher Yostar simply quips “Rest assured that our families are not being held hostage.”
The official X account for Nukitashi the Animation recently posted the suitable-for-work teaser trailer below, giving a glimpse at how the characters Junnosuke Tachibana and Nanase Katagiri will look and revealing that their voice actors will be the same as in the game. They also suggest that a NSFW trailer will be released in the near future.
