Umamusume: Pretty Derby highly popular among “core” gamers with over 100 games on Steam, research says

A new analysis by Sensor Tower looks into who's playing Umamusume: Pretty Derby's global version.

Cygames’s Umamusume: Pretty Derby became an overnight hit in the West as soon as the official English version launched across Steam and mobile platforms on June 26. The horse-girl training sim made over $22 million in revenue during its first month, with concurrent players on Steam peaking at over 80k. Analyzing the global version’s success, Sensor Tower recently took a closer look at who’s playing Umamusume.

According to the report (which looks at data from June 26 to July 25), US players make up the majority of Umamusume’s global playerbase. The US accounts for 32% of mobile downloads and 29% of Steam players. Not only that, but players in the US contribute more than 70% of mobile revenue, which suggests exceptionally high average spending per user.

Interestingly, nearly 80% of Steam users who picked up Umamusume had over 100 games in their libraries, which suggests the game is highly popular among core gamers. Sensor Tower speculates that the depth of Umamusume’s game mechanics and training system are what’s attracting this demographic.

The popularity wasn’t short-lived either, as both the mobile and Steam versions have seen steady growth in daily active users since launch, with a noticeable jump happening on July 16, when the SSR Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond banners were released.
