Silent Hill 2 remake makes a nice reference to Maria’s original outfit

While most of the original Silent Hill 2’s aesthetics have been faithfully translated in the remake, one of the things that has changed is the character Maria’s outfit. Though Maria sports a magenta leather jacket over a black dress and long boots in the remake, Bloober Team was nice enough to include her original clothes as an Easter egg.

Although Maria’s new outfit in the remake is a black leather-looking dress, the subtle shiny pattern on it references her original leopard print skirt.

Soon after meeting Maria in Rosewater Park, James escorts her through the nearby motel in search of the code to the reception desk safe. Their journey leads them to Room 108, where James busts a wall to Room 107 to obtain a hint to the safe’s combination.

As he returns through the wall, Maria will show him a cropped red cardigan and leopard print skirt. She asks James if the outfit will look good on her, to which the player can reply with “Umm… Sure.” Despite James’ tone of voice, Maria takes the compliment, and the two move on through the motel.

This is the same outfit Maria wore in the original Silent Hill 2, albeit updated to fit the new graphics engine. Players can get a better look at the outfit by examining it later on. As Maria still wears a choker and boots in the remake, it would only take a small outfit change for her to look exactly as she did in the original game.

Unlike at the start of the remake where you can try to leave Silent Hill, there is no achievement for interacting with Maria’s old clothes. Considering it is already in the game, hopefully Bloober Team decides to make this a wearable outfit for Maria so that veteran players can play the remake in an even more authentic way.
