The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, developed and published by Netmarble, is an upcoming free-to-play anime RPG set to release on January 28, 2026. What sets it apart from Netmarble’s previous attempts at adapting the IP into a game (The Seven Deadly Sins: IDLE Adventure, The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross) is that this time, players will get to explore the franchise’s fantastical land of Britannia as an open world. The game will tell a brand-new original story set within the Seven Deadly Sins universe, which players will get to experience alongside both old and new characters.
Although fans undoubtedly love getting new content, it’s not that difficult to miss the mark when it comes to putting your own spin on a beloved IP. In a recent interview with FinalWeapon, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin’s executive producer Do-Hyung Koo emphasized that his development team’s biggest goal was to create a game that respects the original series’ flow and lore, while building a brand-new storyline upon it. And much of it was possible due to the team’s close collaboration with the original manga author.

Talking to Denfaminicogamer, Koo explained that, in order to make their take on 7DS’s universe as authentic as possible, Netmarble sought the advice of Suzuki-sensei himself. “We’re closely communicating with Nakaba Suzuki, the original creator of the manga. He created and drew the designs for the game’s new original characters, and advised us on the plot of the main story. So, while aiming to keep it within the canon of the original work, we also added our own original interpretation exclusively for the game.”

While it’s yet to be seen how the team’s efforts to adapt the vast universe of The Seven Deadly Sins will translate into the final game, it sounds like an original twist on the renowned series could turn it into a solid entry point for new fans of the franchise. And if executed successfully, it could also be a big thing for long-time fans who would finally get to experience their favorite franchise as an explorable, 30-square-kilometer-wide (as Koo told Denfaminicogamer), open-world map.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is set to release on January 28, 2026, for the PC (Steam). PS5, iOS and Android.
