The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy has a bigger word count than any of Kodaka’s past games, which is making translation into additional languages a challenge

Kazutaka Kodaka comments on whether The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy will be translated into other languages like French and Spanish.

A Prologue Demo for The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy was released on Steam yesterday. Players have been quick to share their feedback with one of the titles lead creatives, Kazutaka Kodaka. While many praised the demo, feedback has also highlighted the fact that The Hundred Line is currently only playable in Japanese, English or Chinese, with some users calling for translations into other languages.

Over the past few months, Kodaka seems to have received several requests for the game to be made available in widely spoken languages like French and Spanish. In response, the Danganronpa series creator has explained that he would like to add more translations later on if possible. However, Too Kyo Games is making the game on a very stretched out budget. Another obstacle is the game’s massive script, which Kodaka suggests has made it difficult to partner with European publishers (the game’s story spans 100 days and has 100 endings). Kodaka has stated that “If the game is successful, we would like to localize it into multiple languages” and “I aim to boost sales to fund translations independently.”

With the game having spent 7 years in development, fans have been excited about the demo for The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. The developers have poured a huge amount of energy, time and money into the game, as detailed in Kodaka’s recent message below:

Hopefully, the positive feedback the demo is getting will translate into sales of the full game, allowing Too Kyo Games to add other languages in the future.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is set to be released for the PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch on April 24, 2025. The demo is available now.
