Terry Bogard was so majestic in Super Smash Bros that people don’t know how to feel about his face in Street Fighter 6

Capcom just revealed a teaser for Terry Bogard’s appearance in Street Fighter 6 during EVO 2024. While the reveal has been massively popular, with players already proclaiming the Fatal Fury crossover character as their future main, there’s been some mixed feelings about Terry’s looks, especially among Japanese fans.

You may be wondering what could possibly be wrong with Terry’s appearance, but it probably has less to do with him looking bad in Street Fighter 6 and more to do with him being astonishingly pretty in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When he appeared as a downloadable newcomer in the 2018 Smash entry, Terry Bogard had masculine but soft and almost anime-like facial features.

However, Terry Bogard assumes a much more realistic appearance in Street Fighter 6, as is apparent from the recent trailer. He also has dramatically more masculine and rugged facial features, which make his Smash appearance look almost androgynous by comparison.

Post translation: Perhaps it’s because the image of Terry from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is burned into my mind, but his face in Street Fighter 6 looks so tough and manly that I’m panicking like, is this really okay??

With this in mind, it comes as no surprise that fans who were used to Terry’s looks in Smash are struggling to accept his makeover. Users have also pointed out that his side profile in the SF6 trailer suggests a much “cooler-looking” front view than the one revealed, which may be causing some of the troubled reactions. On the other hand, some players prefer Capcom’s take on Terry to Smash’s, as one user emotionally comments, “His face is very realistic – this is definitely how Terry would look in the world of Street Fighter 6. It’s just so good, thank you Capcom.”

Obviously, there is no right or wrong in the matter, especially as SNK characters don’t have fixed appearances even in mainline entries. But if Terry’s appearance in the Fatal Fury games is a middle ground, Super Smash Bros. and Street Fighter 6 seem to have covered two extremes.

Terry Bogard is coming to Street Fighter 6’s Battle Hub, Fighting Ground, and World Tour modes sometime in Autumn 2024.

  1. I think the issue obviously goes down to the realistic high budget only direction losing it’s luster with normal audiences as going all in one one aesthetic design does kind of make you one dimensional and boring over time as it’s too common with no real variety. Capcom I think has been remedying it with Kunitsu-Gami and their Engine slowly moving towards more surrealistic-colorful direction, but it’s obvious even with Terry, that they need more time to get back to their cell shaded ways that does remind people of Viewtiful Joe, Okami or Under The Skin, MVC3.
