Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada says Tekken 8 backlash was justified and a “natural occurrence”

Tekken series executive producer Katsuhiro Harada acknowledges Tekken 8 backlash, noting that criticism from players was not unwarranted.

It took two weeks for Bandai Namco Studios to rectify the polarizing changes that were introduced in season two of Tekken 8. Following the announcement of an emergency patch scheduled for April 14 at 5 pm PDT, Tekken series executive producer Katsuhiro Harada says that fans are right for calling the developers out, himself included.

The Tekken 8 development team acknowledges its mistake in making the game more offense-oriented, despite previous claims that it would include more defensive options. While the underlying issues of seasons one and two are still being resolved, the upcoming patch seeks to increase all characters’ maximum health, adjust the payoff of high-reward moves, and rebalance the Heat System. The development team also promises to incorporate player feedback in future patches and to focus on issues that result in overpowered characters and one-sided gameplay.

Harada knows that he and the rest of the development team messed up and will continue to update Tekken 8 to the point where both newcomers and series veterans will be happy with the state of the game. While the emergency patch will address general issues, Harada reveals that the development team is already hard at work on the next update. Succeeding patches are said to be more frequent and will focus more on adjusting the abilities of the 35 fighters currently in the game. Considering some people have already been modding Tekken 8 to be more like past entries, Bandai Namco has quite a ways before it can gain back its players’ trust.
