Tekken 8 producer reacts to diabolical one-hit knockout in tournament

Taking a break from dropping video game wisdom, Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada took to social media to express his approval of “some good ass Tekken 8.” The clip he references is from a fight between Joe “JoeCrush” Olveda and Peter “Kytaie” Yuzyk in the FlyQuest Fight Series #21 held last August 3, 2024. In it, JoeCrush uses Jack-8’s infamous Gigaton Punch to one-shot Kytaie’s Jun at the start of the first round of their fourth game.

To add some context to the fight, Gigaton Punch is a legacy move that belongs to all of the Jack characters in the Tekken franchise. While the base move has a long wind-up and does a ton of damage if it connects, it can be charged further to do an unblockable one-hit K.O.

Most players view Gigaton Punch as a useless move as its long start-up animation means that it can be easily telegraphed and countered. JoeCrush lured Kytaie with the Gigaton Punch from a neutral position and simply waited for him to get close. Once Kytaie took the bait, all JoeCrush had to do was release the fully charged Gigaton Punch and take the first round.

Kytaie, being the good sport that he is, isn’t afraid to talk about getting one-shot by Jack-8. He jokingly contemplates getting a Korean lever arcade stick to prevent such a thing from happening again and even begs Katsuhiro Harada to give him another chance at competitive Tekken 8. In truth, Kytaie seems content with making esports videos and expanding his photography portfolio.

JoeCrush, on the other hand, is humbler than most fighting game players as he only mentions the fight once on his X (formerly Twitter) social media account. It seems getting to pull off a Gigaton Punch in a tournament was reward enough for him, as are the multiple clips of the fight that are now circling the Internet.
