With Tekken 8 in its current state (overwhelming offense, few defensive options, excessive tracking, etc.) modder KulaGGin has taken to reworking the game to be more like past titles in the franchise. The mod, simply titled “Good Ass Tekken,” removes the Heat System, Rage System, Armor, and many other features that some players deem unfair or broken.
Different versions of the mod can be downloaded from the Fight Club Discord channel, allowing players to play with the parameters they deem fair and balanced. One version of the mod removes the Rage System and tracking at the start of certain moves while another removes tracking from homing moves altogether.

While players have different opinions as to which is the best Tekken game, KulaGGin says the purpose of “Good Ass Tekken” is to make Tekken 8 more like Tekken 5:
“The general idea is to have a well-balanced game where all moves have good risk-reward and not too big of a reward. So no 150-damage combos and launchers that lead to them.”
Though KulaGGin has a general ruleset for what he wants the mod to be, player interactions and feedback will help shape it in the long run.
Many Tekken players are welcoming of the “Good Ass Tekken” mod, citing its lack of gimmicks as a return to form for the franchise. Others are not so keen on the mod’s excessive removal of certain features and would recommend playing past Tekken games to modding Tekken 8 to be more like a classic title. Tekken fans will never be completely appeased, but the “Good Ass Tekken” mod aims to at least make a better version of Tekken 8 than the one players currently have to contend with.
Tekken 8 is available for the PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
