While Nintendo even promised to take big risks to meet the soaring demand for the Nintendo Switch 2, it looks like the Japanese video game company is anticipating the console shortage far in advance. A retailer outside of Japan (likely a Target store) recently received branded signs from Nintendo featuring the words “Out of Stock” alongside the logo and image of the Nintendo Switch 2.
Found on Reddit, the “Out of Stock” signs seem like Nintendo’s way of saving retailers the trouble of creating their own signs and answering inevitable customer queries. On the other hand, some commenters think that the preemptive online post and the signs do wonders for the Nintendo Switch 2’s marketing both before and after the stocked consoles have sold out.

Others are looking ahead and assume that these “Out of Stock” Nintendo Switch 2 signs will become great collector’s items once enough time has passed. It would be funny to look at one of these signs 20 years from now and talk about the “Great Switch 2 Shortage” of 2025. Given that securing a Switch 2 anywhere in the world is a problem right now, expect more of these signs with different languages to be posted up in stores once the console launches on June 5.
