Super Robot Wars developer becomes subsidiary of Bandai Namco Studios
Bandai Namco Studios announced on July 3 that Super Robot Wars and Mobile Suit Gundam developer BB Studio has fully joined the Bandai Namco Studios Group starting this fiscal year.
Formerly known as Banpresoft, the company behind the Super Robot Wars series initially became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Games (now Bandai Namco Entertainment) in 2008. Then, Banpresoft was merged with BEC in 2011 and renamed to BB Studio, its present name.
Bandai Namco Entertainment established Bandai Namco Studios in 2012 to separate its publishing and development functions, but at that point, BB Studio remained directly under Bandai Namco Entertainment. This has now changed, with BB Studio becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Studios. The company’s CEO Hirofumi Inagaki has commented that BB Studio will continue to run Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 and work on the Super Robot Wars series.
With BB Studio coming directly under a company focused on game development, fans are interpreting this organizational change as a sign to be optimistic about new Super Robot Wars titles down the line.
