The entrance to Super Nintendo World’s new Donkey Kong Country expansion in Universal Studios Japan, Osaka has finally been unveiled. To cross into the new area, visitors are funneled through a barrel-shaped tunnel. Two golden palm trees are on either side of the barrel entrance, along with a colorful “Donkey Kong Country” sign plastered above the opening.
As mentioned in the Universal Studios Japan X post, the Donkey Kong Country expansion’s official opening is set for December 11, 2024. Owners of a Universal Studios Japan Grand Royal Annual Pass: Grand Royal and a few select guests were able to experience the area as early as November 27, which is why the park is already hyping up Donkey Kong’s real-world kingdom.
In addition to the entrance, the Universal Studios Japan X account has been slowly trickling some of the area’s new attractions. Donkey Kong-themed food and beverages have been announced, with a new limited-time DK Crush Hot Sundae looking to warm up visitors in the winter.
Those unable to make the trip to Universal Studios Japan need not fret, as a second Super Nintendo World featuring both the Super Mario and Donkey Kong country areas will open in Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida. The United States-based Nintendo World is set to open in 2025 and will feature all of the attractions of its Japan-based counterpart.
