Street Fighter 6’s upcoming Replay Review feature will make learning from mistakes easier
One of the improvements to Street Fighter 6 that will be coming alongside the Terry Bogard update on September 24 is the inclusion of Replay Review – a feature that lets players take control of either character during a replay match and improve their gameplay. Replay Review will work for both local and online replays, potentially allowing for the control of other players’ matches and characters.
When the September 24 patch drops, players will be able to pause during replays and select “Switch to Player Control”. This opens the option to choose from either player 1’s or player 2’s character. After players make their choice, a short pause ensues, and gameplay resumes.
What’s interesting about Replay Review is how the opposing character changes their actions based on player decisions. Upon being hit with Ken’s OD Shoryuken during a Replay Review, the enemy Kimberly adapts by using her exploding Shuriken Bomb as a springboard to do a jumping attack. These adaptive moves can be seen throughout the demonstration of Replay Review and will help players formulate their battle plans accordingly.
Fighting games aren’t the easiest titles to learn, and Street Fighter’s strict input timing and resource management can make it hard for newcomers to get into. Street Fighter 6 has already taken numerous steps to make the game more accessible by adding features like Modern controls, audio accessibility, and frame data, but Replay Review tackles one of the hardest things players need to learn from: past matches. With games such as Tekken 8, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, and now Street Fighter 6 adding the option to take over replays, players will be able to improve much faster (or at least emulate fighting their favorite pro players).
