Street Fighter 6’s Boot Camp Bonanza Fighting Pass brings military cosmetics and a possible hint as to when Mai Shiranui arrives
Street Fighter 6 is starting 2025 with the military-themed Boot Camp Bonanza Fighting Pass. While the initial reception isn’t as favorable as past Fighting Passes, it may give players a hint as to when Mai Shiranui, the next new playable character, will be added to the game.
What’s in the Boot Camp Bonanza Fighting Pass?
The Boot Camp Bonanza Fighting Pass features military-themed cosmetics and the playable classic 19XX: The War Against Destiny at the Game Center. Buyers of the premium version of the Fighting Pass can complete challenges to unlock the featured avatar military outfit that includes a garrison cap, goggles, bomber jacket, cargo pants, and combat boots.
Aside from the avatar cosmetics, a unique photo frame, challenger screen effect, titles, stickers featuring characters from the Capcom classic Cannon Spike, music from 19XX: The War Against Destiny, and an emote mimicking Jean-Claude Van Damme’s iconic split are also available in the premium Fighting Pass. Those who don’t want to buy the premium Fighting Pass can also unlock cosmetics in the free version, though these remain to be seen.
Mai Shiranui is likely not coming this January
Street Fighter 6 history shows that Capcom typically hypes upcoming playable characters by releasing a Battle Pass centered around them before releasing the new fighter later in the month.
The “Terry Arrives!” Fighting Pass released on September 2, 2024 and was followed by the addition of Terry Bogard to Street Fighter 6 on September 24. Likewise, Akuma was promoted extensively on social media before he and his “Akuma Arrives!” Fighting Pass were made available simultaneously on May 22, 2024. The only character to receive a Fighting Pass after their introduction is M. Bison, the first character of the Year 2 Character Pass, which was a surprise announcement during last March’s Capcom Highlights event.
Seeing as Mai Shiranui is confirmed to be the next playable character in Street Fighter 6, it is unlikely that she will be arriving in January. Though Capcom released her teaser trailer last December hinting at an early 2025 release, it is nowhere near the amount of promotion a Fatal Fury crossover character would likely have so close to their addition to the game (just take a look at Terry Bogard).
People know that Mai is coming in Winter 2025, so Capcom may decide build anticipation by promoting her more on social media and possibly adding a Mai-themed Fighting Pass. Considering the amount of Fatal Fury lore and fans, the one Fatal Fury-themed Fighting Pass that was released before Terry Bogard’s addition to Street Fighter 6 might not be enough.
Street Fighter 6 players have long since clamored for more character-centric cosmetics instead of avatar-based ones in the Fighting Passes. Perhaps Capcom will use Mai’s introduction as a chance to deliver more character cosmetics based on fan feedback..
