Street Fighter 6 adds member of its dev team as a fightable V-Rival in limited-time event
Those who want to take a break from fighting other players in Street Fighter 6 (or aren’t quite ready yet), will be happy to know that the popular V-Rival mode is getting a brand-new limited-time event. Interacting with Li-Fen in the Battle Hub will allow players to take on the special V-Rival Professor Woshige and earn a special emote and challenger screen illustrations.
Lore-wise, Professor Woshige is a former Shadaloo Fighting Game Officer who works alongside his peers as they research Street Fighter 6 characters. In real life, however, he is Ryuichi “Woshige“ Shigeno – a Japanese fighting game pro player who works as a battle planner for Street Fighter 6 (he was also the battle director in Street Fighter 5).
Many fighting game fans will know Woshige for his infamous blunder during EVO 2015, where he prematurely stood up to celebrate against Kenichi Ogawa while playing Guilty Gear Xrd. Woshige lost the match and ended up in third place, while Ogawa went on to defeat Nage and win the tournament.
Woshige seems to have taken his loss in stride, as the emote that players can earn during the special V-Rival event pays homage to his premature celebration. Woshige also drew his own avatar, as well as similar illustrations of Luke, Cammy, and Akuma that players can unlock as challenger screen illustrations. While Woshige himself isn’t going to be a playable character, you can use the aforementioned characters in the roster to challenge Woshige’s picks.
The Professor Woshige V-Rival event drops alongside the Mai update and runs from February 5 to March 3.
