Street Fighter 2 designer and other Capcom veterans working on new battle game under shmup dev Cave
Japanese game company Cave, best known for their bullet hell shooters like DoDonPachi and Mushihimesama, revealed more about a new in-development project involving well known creatives like ex-Capcom veteran Noritaka Funamizu and composer Yoko Shimomura.
In their financial earnings presentation (released on January 14), Cave had a slide on the tentatively titled Kamitsuku Project, a game under development by Baobab Game Studios and set to be published by Cave subsidiary Deluxe Games. Kamitsuku Project is described as a “plunder battle game” and will feature dramatic scraps between three teams of three.
The game is being developed by an all-star cast of videogame veterans. The Osaka-based Baobab Game Studios is headed by former Capcom video game designer, director and producer Noritaka Funamizu who worked on an extensive range of series including Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry. Other big names involved in the Kamitsuku Project include Akira Nishitani (known for designing Street Fighter II), Xenoblade character designer Raita Kazama, and prolific game music composer Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts, Super Smash Bros.).
At the time of writing, little else is known about the project except that it is currently underway, with the release date scheduled to be announced anywhere between 2026 to 2028.
