Square Enix to release mini metal models of retro Sega consoles

Square Enix revealed that they will be releasing detailed diecast models of classic Sega consoles. Coming in 2025, these miniature metal models are available in 6 designs- commemorating different console eras.

The Sega Hardware Series Bright Arts Gallery series contains figures of the following Sega consoles: Megadrive, Genesis, regular Saturn, white Saturn and Dreamcast. There are two versions of the Dreamcast figure- one with the blue logo and one with the red logo, but their availability varies between regions. Each figure is sold separately. The detailed 1/5 scale models are around 5cm in diameter and have controllers attached. These models are for display purposes only and don’t have any functional parts, unlike the mini controller keychains that Nintendo released back in July.

The announcement has triggered many puzzled reactions on Japanese social media- with users expressing surprise that these Sega replicas are being made by Square Enix. One person who weighed in on the topic is NieR series creator Yoko Taro.

Post translation: I don’t know how this happened, but Square Enix is selling metal figurines of Sega consoles… I think it’s nice.

Pre-orders for the Sega Hardware Series Bright Arts Gallery figures opened on Square Enix’s Japan store from September 26. They are scheduled to be released on January 25, 2025. The Sega console figures can also be pre-ordered from Square Enix’s Global Stores, including North America and Europe regions, where they will be released in April and July 2025, respectively.
