Square Enix bans posting certain parts of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined for a month after the demo’s launch, with strict guidelines on spoilers

Square Enix recently announced their materials usage guidelines to prevent spoiling the story of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Though the source material of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is more than 25 years old now, Square Enix is still implementing materials usage guidelines to prevent spoiling the game for others. Considering the remake features brand-new storylines alongside some streamlined changes to the original story, veterans and new players will likely want to experience the game for themselves.

While images, videos, and streams are allowed for the most part, one big guideline to follow is that parts that include major plot points need to be marked with a spoiler warning (something that will be difficult to do when streaming a new playthrough). Similar to how images and videos must be marked with specific proprietary notices, there must be a clear notification so that viewers can avert their eyes from spoilers.

The most specific guideline prohibits posting images, videos, and streams of gameplay following the boss battle in Malign Shrine: Throne Room until February 5, 2026, the game’s official release date. This is likely meant for those who get early access to Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined (either by purchasing the Digital Deluxe Edition for two days’ early access or getting a code from Square Enix).

As far as how Square Enix handles spoilers, these rules sound rather reasonable compared to some of its previous guidelines for the Dragon Quest franchise. For example, last year, players were requested to refrain from posting major Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake spoilers until one month after its release. And even that is nothing compared to back in 1987, when Enix filed a copyright lawsuit against a Japanese gaming magazine for publishing Dragon Quest 2 guides without permission.Like with the Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake, Square Enix may request violators to take their content down. You could, however, be either temporarily or permanently suspended from playing your copy of the game depending on the severity of your actions.

Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined is set to release on February 5 for Windows (Microsoft Store), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Steam version will release a day later, on February 6. The free demo is out now.
