Sony is getting rid of the PS5 PlayStation 30th Anniversary themes for now, but plans to bring back them back later

Sony has announced that it will remove its nostalgic PS5 themes on February 1, 2025. Although these themes were referred to as “limited time” from the outset, this decision has still prompted some disappointment on social media. The good news is that these themes will likely be coming back in a later update.

To mark the original PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary, Sony introduced special menu themes for the PS5 in the December 3 system software update. The PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 themes feature each console’s respective start-up sounds and visuals, instantly giving gamers a huge nostalgia hit.

According to official PlayStation account posts on X in both English and Japanese, it seems Sony received a lot of positive feedback about these throwbacks to previous console generations. Consequently, the comments are full of disappointed players who do not want to see them removed, even temporarily.

It seems that Sony has listened to fan feedback, as the official announcement above suggests that these beloved special themes will make a return in the coming months (the wording in the Japanese version of the post is a little clearer in this respect). In an additional comment on the thread, the official PlayStation account revealed that “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we’re excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.”
