Sonic Racing CrossWorlds opens applications for PS5 closed network test

Sega drops new info on Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, including a shiny new trailer, game features, and how to apply for next week's PS5 closed beta.

Sega dropped new info on their upcoming Sonic racing game today- including how to apply for the title’s closed beta test. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will be releasing on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.

Sega’s blue hedgehog mascot has got behind the wheel in numerous games, the most recent racing title being 2019’s Team Sonic Racing. The upcoming Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is its sequel, and the trailer that dropped today showcases familiar power-up and ring collecting, speed boost-based racing over bold and fantastical courses. Sonic favorites like Tails, Ami, Knuckles, Eggman, Shadow and many more have been confirmed as part of the driver line-up- which will be the largest of any Sonic racing game to date.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will bring back the vehicle transformation mechanic that previously featured in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. If a car is not your style, CrossWorlds will also see the return of the Extreme Gears hoverboards from Sonic Riders.

If you want to check out Sonic Racing CrossWorlds ahead of release, Sega is running a closed beta test of the game next week. The test is scheduled to run between February 22 and 24 (start times will vary depending on time zone). Applications are open until February 18, and more info can be found on the official website.

The closed beta will feature 6 courses and 5 CrossWorlds with 9 characters and 16 vehicles to pick from. It will give players the chance to try out the game’s online multiplayer World Matches, so that the devs can identify any pre-launch issues.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is scheduled to be released on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
