Shin Megami Tensei board game Kickstarter raises double the goal in less than 24 hours, set to ship in May 2025

An all-or-nothing Kickstarter campaign for a board game based on Atlus’s Shin Megami Tensei video game series has raised more than double its initial goal in less than 24 hours. The Kickstarter, which began at midnight on November 13 (Japan time), had a goal of 30 million yen (around $19300 USD), which it surpassed by 3 am. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised 75.9 million yen (approx. $490,000 USD), more than doubling the original goal.

Shin Megami Tensei The Board Game

Shin Megami TenseiThe Board Game is a “super heavyweight” strategic game in which 2 to 4 players battle it out for 3 to 4 hours. The strategic gameplay involves using the powers of demons to gain control over 9 areas of a divided and destroyed Tokyo. The board game features 72 demon figures and their respective cards, with players using Shin Megami Tensei style mechanics like Demon Dialogue (i.e. Demon Negotiation) and Demon Fusion. Players must also accumulate the Magnetite resource, which will enable them to create a new world.

Tokyo based creative company ICREA have been working on a project to create an officially licensed Shin Megami Tensei board game since 2021, displaying prototypes of the game at GenCon and Tokyo Game Show this year. With the Kickstarter funding far surpassing the goal, they now hope to further improve the board game by implementing Stretch Goals like holographic cards.

Post translation: The crowdfunding for the SMT board game has surpassed the goal! Many thanks to everyone who made a pledge. Now that our funding has increased, we can upgrade the game, so watch this space!

At the time of writing, Shin Megami Tensei: The Board Game is scheduled to start shipping out in May 2025. The board game will be released in Japanese and English, however it will only be available to Kickstarter backers, with no plans for it to be sold at retail. The Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to run until December 14, 2024. More information can be found on the Kickstarter page
