Serial Experiments Lain RPG //signal. gets free playable demo with one month left before launch

Serial Experiments Lain's derivative RPG //signal. has a free demo out for PC and Mac, giving players a taste of its early stages.

The Serial Experiments Lain occult-themed RPG //signal. got a free playable demo for MacOS and Windows on March 29. Players will be able to experience the start of the game as Lain Iwakura, the titular protagonist of the franchise.

The //signal. demo version finally launches at 9pm today! You will be able to play the game’s early stages, as well as PHANTOMa, which we’ve included as a mechanic. We hope you will have fun playing it while you wait for the official release!

Team MJM’s //signal. is an RPG based on the 1998 game Serial Experiments Lain developed by Pioneer LDC. As a derivative work officially approved by NBCUniversal Entertainment, //signal. looks to be the answer for Serial Experiments Lain fans who have been clamoring for a remaster of the classic PlayStation game

In addition to exploring the virtual collective world known as the Wired, the demo will allow players to experience PHANTOMa – an in-lore children’s MMORPG that serves as a front for harnessing young players’ psychic potential. The //signal. demo won’t really harness your psychic potential (if any), but it is a nice touch that adds to the experience.

You can download the //signal. demo from the Team MJM webpage

//signal. is set to be released on April 30, 2025 for PC via Steam and itch.io for 1,000 JPY (roughly $6.71 USD). A physical edition will also be sold for 1,700 JPY ($11.41 USD).
