Following the increasing number of pre-orders for the physical edition of Serial Experiments Lain RPG //signal., Team MJM announced that it will conduct a Campfire crowdfunding campaign, running from April 15 until May 31, 2025. In addition to covering the production costs of the physical copies, the extra funding will allow the developers to improve the quality of the game.
Team MJM originally planned to produce only 300 physical copies of //signal. After receiving over 5,000 pre-orders in less than a month, the team initially wanted to cancel physical pre-orders altogether. Due to people’s love for the game and franchise, however, Team MJM decided to crowdfund the project instead.

The majority of funds earned from the campaign will be put to production of the additional physical editions. Return item productions costs, shipping costs within Japan, and the fee for putting the campaign on the crowdfunding website are also covered. Interestingly, the production of new illustrations is also mentioned, giving people extra incentive to back the campaign.
As with many crowdfunding projects, the //signal. physical edition crowdfunding campaign has multiple tiers that reward backers based on how much they donate. Layer:01 (the lowest tier) costs 1,000 JPY (around $6.81 USD) which entitles you to a physical copy of the game, a PC and phone wallpaper, and a “Thank You” email from the developers. The most expensive tier – the Accel Course – costs 100,000 JPY (around $681 USD) and gives you all the rewards found in the lower tiers in addition to being able to choose a new costume that will be implemented into the game.
Should the crowdfunding campaign exceed its 1,500,000 JPY ($10,214 USD) goal, Team MJM plans to use the leftover funding to develop its next game. Regardless, if it reaches the goal, the development studio will carry out production for all physical edition pre-orders and all backers will receive the rewards for the highest tier they paid for.
//signal. was initially supposed to be released on April 30 but has since been postponed to May 19. The game will be on PC via Steam and itch.io for 1,000 JPY (roughly $6.71 USD). A physical edition will also be sold for 1,700 JPY ($11.41 USD). Pre-orders can be found on Amazon, while a free playable demo can be downloaded from the Team MJM webpage.
