RPG Maker devs to release Action Game Maker, a Godot-based toolkit that doesn’t require programming
Gotcha Gotcha Games have announced Action Game Maker, a game development toolkit for creating 2D action games. The latest installment of the “Maker series” is scheduled for release in 2025 for PC (Steam).
Action Game Maker is a successor to the development program Pixel Game Maker MV, which was released back in 2018. Like its predecessor, Action Game Maker is designed to give users a high level of freedom to develop action RPGs without any knowledge of programming. In addition, it is built using the open-source game engine Godot, which is supposed to allow even more advanced functionality.
The toolkit uses intuitive visual scripting and well as GDScript, and will include stock assets for characters, enemies, tiles, BGM and sound effects. Action Game Maker will also come equipped with a tile map editor and support for sprite animation and 2D bone animation. Users will be able to access Godot’s particle and shader systems through the new toolkit.
Action Game Maker is scheduled to release on PC (Steam) in 2025, with a Nintendo Switch port planned down the line.
Glad to see Godot being used more often especially when it’s open source, this definitely comes at a time when Unity has become greedy.
