A hidden URL marked “NEWDAWN-capcom.com” in Resident Evil Requiem has fans scratching their heads. While it may seem like the address would lead to a Capcom-affiliated website, after presumably being acquired by a third party, it now actually leads to an unrelated personal page belonging to a fan of the American video game studio Valve.

The URL can be found on the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA) computers that Leon Kennedy uses to save his progress later on in the game. By zooming in with a high magnification scope, players can see the address mixed in with a bunch of code.
Unlike other titles with in-game URLs that lead to associate websites, typing “NEWDAWN-capcom.com” into your web browser opens a third-party website for one “Gabe Follower”, an individual who shares information about Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, the company, and its various projects.
On the flip side, there are those who are trying to decipher the meaning of the words “New Dawn”. While some go so far as to examine the lyrics of the Resident Evil Requiem image song “Through the Darkness” and quotes from the Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil 5, others think that “New Dawn” may have been the working title for Resident Evil Requiem while it was in development.

Coincidentally, the initials “ND”, which could stand for “New Dawn”, can be found on the license plates of Leon’s Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. Leon’s rear plate, “ND=9642”, was first shown in the Resident Evil Requiem – 3rd Trailer. If this is the case, then the complete plate number indicates that Resident Evil Requiem, aka “New Dawn”, is the culmination of Leon’s appearances in the franchise, with the numbers 9,6,4, and 2 referencing the mainline entries he has been in.
All of this is speculation, though. At any rate, it’s a good thing that the URL hidden in Resident Evil Requiem does not lead to a malicious website, otherwise players would find themselves paying the price for their curiosity.
Resident Evil Requiem is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows (Steam).
