To bring a sense of dread into everyday life, the Resident Evil Portal (an official hub created by Capcom that collates all things Resident Evil) asked fans to send in scary pet pictures that would fit right into the horror franchise. People all over the world responded with several less-than-flattering photos of their animal companions, many of which look just as funny as they are terrifying.
The majority of responses in the English post feature cats and dogs – many of which look like they are yawning or are ready to engage in some light roughhousing. There are an odd rat and parrot in the mix, which begs the question as to when Capcom will include more infected species in Resident Evil.
Responses to the Japanese post (which went live a day prior to the English version) are downright terrifying, as they feature everything from rabid-looking dogs to biting meerkats. They did not stop at mammals either, as the animal selection also includes frogs, centipedes, and even goldfish. It seems like Japanese fans understood the assignment and put in the extra effort to make their pets look even more rabid and terrifying. Alternatively, the diversity of pets for Resident Evil fans might be greater in Japan than in other parts of the world.

Infected animals have plagued the Resident Evil franchise since the first game. Who could ever forget the pair of zombie dogs that burst through the windows of the Spencer Mansion in Resident Evil? It remains to be seen if there will be any animals in Resident Evil Requiem, but it would be interesting to see Capcom use its fans’ pets as inspiration for its future projects.
