Resident Evil 7: Biohazard sells over 1 million units for eight consecutive years

According to Capcom, the game sold 1.14 million units just in the 6 months from April to September 2025.

While people are eagerly anticipating Resident Evil Requiem’s arrival, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has consistently been selling well since its release in 2017. Based on Capcom’s interim report for the fiscal year ending March 2026 (April 1 to September 30, 2025), the game has sold 15,936,000 units in its lifetime and continues to sell over 1 million units each year.

When compared to the other games in the franchise, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard ranks second in sales (by units), just behind the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2. While the former was initially a slow burner (likely due to the game’s new protagonist and shift to a first-person perspective), positive reception and word-of-mouth contributed to its long-lasting appeal. According to Capcom’s new report, the game sold approximately 1.14 million units just in the six months from April to September this year.

The game’s availability across a wide range of platforms is also a contributing factor. On that note, a Nintendo Switch 2 port is set to release on February 27, 2026, which just so happens to be when Resident Evil Requiem launches worldwide. If you can’t join Grace Ashcroft on her trip to Raccoon City yet, you can always take a walk down memory lane with Ethan Winters in the Baker Estate.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, iPadOS, PC (Windows and macOS), and Nintendo Switch. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is set to release on February 27, 2026.
