Despite their unappetizing appearance, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s cryptobiotes play an important part in helping humans like Sam Bridges keep their blood levels up and providing resistance to the aging timefall rain. While these creatures are fictional, the official PlayStation X account has created a recipe that will allow you to make these little bugs for real.
Regardless of what color cryptobiote you want, all of them use glutinous rice flour, water, and white bean paste as a base. After combining the glutinous rice flour and water, you’ll want to heat them in a microwave and mix them with a white bean paste.
Before you can start molding, you must first choose the color and flavor of your cryptobiote. The iconic flesh-colored cryptobiote is made by mixing coffee powder and red food coloring with the base. A bright yellow cryptobiote contains Vegemite and yellow food coloring. A very green cryptobiote requires mixing green juice powder and yellow food coloring. Lastly, a fiery red cryptobiote contains a mix of chili pepper, habanero powder, and red food coloring.
Once you have mixed in your desired colors, begin molding your cryptobiotes’ bodies by connecting multiple bean paste circles. Cryptobiotes are essentially worms with legs, so build smaller circles around sticks of fried hiyamugi noodles to create the appendages. Making an edible cryptobiote is more about presentation than taste, so make sure each segment is as round as possible. Don’t forget to clip the end segments of the legs to create the cryptobiote’s adorable feet.
Use two pieces of chocolate sprinkles to form the cryptobiotes’ eyes and a toothpick to carve out the mouth. Finally, coat your creation in melted agar jelly to make it shine. While PlayStation presents its cryptobiotes in a makeshift bonsai tree, you don’t have to get too creative if you plan on eating yours right away. Depending on the color, your cryptobiote should taste vaguely like the ingredients you used (the legs should also be a bit crunchy on account of the fried noodles).
