Outer Wilds bug causes Mobius Digital founder Masi Oka’s face to appear in-game

A picture of Masi Oka's face accidentally made its way into Outer Wilds. The developers have confirmed that "he is not where he's supposed to be."

Following the release of patch 16 for Outer Wilds, one player discovered a face smiling back at them from inside the protagonist’s spaceship. Upon closer inspection, they discovered that the face belonged to one of the game’s developers.

The face in question belongs to none other than Outer Wilds producer and Mobius Digital founder Masi Oka. Many will recognize Oka for his acting roles as Hiro Nakamura in NBC’s Heroes, Doctor Max Bergman in CBS’s Hawaii Five-0, and as a Japanese pedestrian in Austin Powers in Goldmember. Despite his prolific acting career, Oka finds time to work on video games and films as a digital artist, voice actor, and producer.

The full version of the photo that made an accidental appearance in Outer Wilds can be found on the Mobius Digital team webpage. Mobius Digital has already acknowledged that Oka’s face appearing in the spaceship is a bug and that he is “not where he is supposed to be.” While this might be a humorous remark, there could still be a chance that Oka’s face will show up in a more intended location in the future.

Outer Wilds is available for PC (Windows), Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
