Nintendo runs out of Wii U spare parts in Japan, ends repair service
Nintendo’s Customer Support Service in Japan announced today that they are officially ending repair services for Wii U consoles, as they have run out of spare parts. This news has quickly become a trending topic on X.
Back in May 2023, Nintendo announced that they planned to cease offering Wii U repairs in Japan once they ran out of spare parts. That day has finally arrived, with Nintendo Support Japan making the following post on X.
Nintendo already stopped servicing Wii U consoles and their controllers in other regions. In 2020, Nintendo ended its repair support for the console in the Americas, stating on its regional support site that “Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the Wii U console, the Wii U GamePad, or Wii U accessories.” In Europe as well, the Wii U is no longer on the repair list.
The topic has already started trending on X with users from around the globe voicing concerns about Wii U preservation in the future- and lamenting the end of an era. The decision leaves players without first-party repair support for a console which allows them to play not only Wii U games but also games for the original Wii. From July 3, Wii U owners in Japan have to rely on unofficial repair services, like players in other regions.
