Nintendo of America’s unsuspecting Animal Crossing: New Horizons post causes speculation about new game

Likely intended as a simple reference to the popular Lofi Girl channel, NOA's Animal Crossing post has fans desperately looking for a deeper meaning.

Fans are up in arms about an Animal Crossing: New Horizons post made by the official Nintendo of America X account. What was supposed to be a simple vibe check has spawned a bunch of fan speculation that a new Animal Crossing game might be in the works.

There doesn’t seem to be any inkling of an actual new game being hinted at in the original post. The villager listening to music by the window is a reference to the iconic Lofi Girl animation used in the popular YouTube music channel. Both the Lofi Girl YouTube channel and Animal Crossing: New Horizons are meant to evoke feelings of calm and relaxation, which is ironically not what people in the comments are exhibiting.

Several fans have already expressed their desire for a new Animal Crossing game, with many asking Nintendo of America to explain the reason behind the post. Some have gone so far as to dissect every aspect of the Lofi Girl reference and speculate that an Animal Crossing music-maker game might be coming soon.

As hopeful as these predictions may be, Nintendo has yet to officially announce a new Animal Crossing game. However, considering that the demand for Animal Crossing-like games is at an all-time high and Animal Crossing: New Horizons released more than five years ago, you can’t put it past Nintendo to strike while the iron is hot.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch.
