Nintendo Museum is surprising first day attendees with all its cute details
The new Nintendo Museum opened in Uji City, Kyoto on October 2. Lucky people who were able to win the ticket lottery for the museum’s first day have been taking to social media to share their impressions, with lots of posts focusing on all the cute details.
As well as the museum’s bigger attractions and experiences (detailed in this article), many people were impressed by how the love for classic Nintendo games extends beyond the exhibits. Particularly popular was the line of Toad characters from the Mario series, which have cute heads that you can wobble. Small details that got posted about included a drinks vending machine with a Kirby design, umbrella holders shaped like different colored Game Boys (for locking up your umbrella while you visit the museum) and lockers that look like Game Boy cartridges.
People also posted about the unique vibe and ordering system for the Nintendo Museum’s Hatena Burger restaurant. Named after the Question mark boxes from the Mario series, the restaurant lets customers choose each layer of their burger. They can even download a cute moving cartoon version of their order later.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto recently discussed how the Nintendo Museum focuses on communicating through the products. It seems that this concept even extends to the more utilitarian aspects of the museum.
Nintendo Museum opened on October 2, 2024 in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture. Tickets must be reserved in advance in English or Japanese through the museum’s website.
