Nintendo’s average annual salary decreased in 2024, but ranked second highest in Japanese regional ranking
According to a ranking published by Japanese business journal Diamond Online, Nintendo had the second highest average annual salary among companies in western Japan in 2024. The ranking includes companies belonging to all industries that are based in Japan’s Kansai region, excluding Osaka.
With an average annual salary of 9.627 million yen (which is around $62,000 based on recent conversion rates), Nintendo came in second, with only semiconductor manufacturer Screen Holdings ahead of them. Nintendo was the only video game/entertainment company to make it into the top five ranking.
Nintendo’s annual salary actually decreased by 2.3% in the 2024 fiscal year, despite the company seeing a 4.4% boost in net sales and 4.9% increase in operating profit during the term. Diamond Online speculated that the salary decrease reflects the drop in net sales (-5.5%) and operating profit (-14.9%) Nintendo saw in the 2023 fiscal year.
On a related note, Nintendo was also named the third among most sought-after employer in Japan this year.
