Nexon to team up with Tencent to launch The First Berserker: Khazan in China
South Korean game company Nexon announced today that they have signed a publishing contract with Tencent to bring their upcoming hardcore action-adventure RPG The First Berserker: Khazan to players in mainland China.
As reported by GameBiz, Nexon’s subsidiary Neople, who is developing The First Berserker: Khazan, will work with Tencent on a localized version of the game.
The First Berserker: Khazan is an upcoming console and PC game set in the world of Nexon’s highly profitable Dungeon Fighter IP. Up until now, the franchise has been most successful in Asia, particularly in mainland China. In fact, the Dungeon & Fighter franchise grew 142% in FY2024 quarter 3 alone due to the extremely successful launch of Dungeon & Fighter Mobile in China back in May (Related article), with the title becoming one the most successful mobile games of all time in the country.
Nexon and Tencent also have a history of publishing games together- just this August,. they also entered into an agreement relating to the Chinese online services for Nexon’s The Finals and ARC Raiders. With these factors in mind, it is hardly surprising that Nexon is teaming up with the Chinese game publishing powerhouse to bring The First Berserker: Khazan to players in China.
Nexon also has its sights set on the global market with The First Berserker: Khazan. Nexon CEO Junghun Lee recently said that the company is hoping that Khazan’s release will boost the Dungeon & Fighter franchise’s recognition in Europe and the US too. The devs at Neople described Khazan as a satisfyingly challenging game that will bring the essence of Dungeon Fighter Online to a full-price, 3D console game.
The First Berserker: Khazan is scheduled to launch in early 2025 for the PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Specific release dates have yet to be announced.
