“Nearly half of them are fake.” NieR creator Yoko Taro says not to buy his autographs online

Nier and Drakengard creator Yoko Taro addresses issue of false autographs being resold online, warns against buying them.

NieR and Drakengard creator Yoko Taro recently took to his personal X account to warn fans about falsified autographs circulating on online marketplaces. He directly responded to a fan-posted image of a signed CD, pointing out that the signature did not belong to him.

The image comes from a (now deleted) fraudulent listing hosted on the secondhand platform Vinted. The physical copy of the Nier Re[in]carnation Original Soundtrack, which normally retails at $29.99, was priced at over $230 due to it being “signed.”

This is far from the only fake Yoko Taro autograph out there though. The creator says he can always tell whether an autograph is genuine because he makes sure to include small unknown details to prevent reselling. From what he’s seen so far, Yoko Taro has confirmed that nearly half of the autographs being resold are fake. He politely advises fans against buying them.
