Aside from taking a huge thematic and narrative departure from the original franchise, Silent Hill f’s prominent viral presence throughout the months after release have also helped it carve a unique path to success. One of the key factors that contributed to its Internet boom was none other than Konatsu Kato, the Japanese voice actress and model for protagonist Hinako Shimizu. Kato’s livestreams of the game have accumulated millions of views and her struggles to progress in the game may have even influenced NeoBards Entertainment to add more difficulty options. Given the success of both Silent Hill f and Kato’s streams, it’s no surprise that more of the cast have decided to hop on the bandwagon and play the game themselves.
The newest members to join in on the trend are Takeshi Masago and Tamami Hiraoka, the actor and actress who portrayed Kanta and Kimie Shimizu (Hinako’s father and mother) in Silent Hill f. Masago predominantly streams on his YouTube channel, with Hiraoka occasionally dropping in to play, read fan comments, and share insights on the game’s production alongside her fellow cast member.
While Masago and Hiraoka have only just started, Kato recently completed Silent Hill f. She wrapped up her first run of the game in a five-and-a-half-hour stream that took place on December 31. All in all, the playthrough totaled about 27 hours (according to the length of her uploaded streams).
By comparison, fellow cast member Yuuka Iijima, who plays Rinko Nishida, completed the game in roughly 16 hours. Natsuki Osaki, who plays Shu Iwai, is currently 12 hours into his playthrough and is still braving the dangers of Ebisuogaoka.
While not actors themselves, Silent Hill f writer Ryukishi07 and a few members of his 07th Expansion doujin circle also took part in a two-hour livestream. Unlike the others, this one focused more on Ryukishi07’s commentary.
With most of the Japanese cast having played or currently playing Silent Hill f, it wouldn’t be surprising for Nanako Mori, Eri Goda, and Kazuaki Yasue, the voice actors for Junko Kinuta, Sakuko Igarashi, and Tsuneki Kotoyuki, respectively, to also join in on the horror.
