Monster Hunter Wilds drops Free Challenge Quest where up to four players hunt an Arch-Tempered Rey Dau for rewards

Capcom just released Monster Hunter Wilds' first Free Challenge Quest, which capitalizes on its current strongest monster.

Eager to capitalize on its current strongest monster, Monster Hunter Wilds just released its first Free Challenge Quest, “The Shining Storm Rages.”. As with the “A Silent Flash” Event Quest (which is still live until May 13 at 11:59 pm UTC), players need to be at least Hunter Rank (HR) 50 to fight an Arch-Tempered Rey Dau in the Windward Plains.

Monster Hunter Wilds Free Challenge Quest

Much like Time-Based Competition Quests, Free Challenge Quests reward lower hunt times (the time it takes to kill or capture a monster). You’ll get an “A” rank for finishing The Shining Storm Rages within 13 minutes, a “B” rank for 20 minutes, and a “C” rank for 50 minutes. Based on the “The Shining Storm Rages” quest description, players will get an equippable pendant based on their best recorded time after the event ends and the times are tallied.

The “free” part of “Free Challenge Quest” means that players will be allowed to use their own equipment to complete the hunt, unlike some Challenge Quests that impose specific loadouts. Now that Capcom is punishing players who use fraudulent means to shorten their hunt times, perhaps Monster Hunter Wilds’ first Free Challenge Quest will go smoothly.

“The Shining Storm Rages” Free Challenge Quest runs until May 20 at 11:59 pm UTC. Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
