After requests for more challenging content, Monster Hunter Wilds’ “A Silent Flash” Event Quest is finally live. This Hunter Rank (HR) 50 minimum requirement quest will have players fighting against an Arch-Tempered Rey Dau in the Windward Plains for some of the strongest armor pieces in the game.
A cut above the regular and Tempered versions, the Arch-Tempered Rey Dau hits extremely hard and can eliminate hunters with a single attack. You should always be wary of a Rey Dau’s wing and tail slams, but you really need to watch for the deadly beam attacks that come out of its horns. An Arch-Tempered Rey Dau will always cover its head with its horns before firing a beam attack, giving you a few seconds to dodge or block it. The Rey Dau’s unique anatomy when it performs its beam attacks coupled with the beams’ Thunder affinity has players calling it the “railgun” monster.
Since the Arch-Tempered Rey Dau’s strongest attacks are Thunder-based, you’ll want to deck yourself in armor pieces that offer high Thunder resistance. Using the regular or Tempered Rey Dau armor set pieces will provide you with a good amount of Thunder resistance on your first few Arch-Tempered Rey Dau attempts. You can swap these pieces for the Rey Dau γ armor pieces once you’ve acquired enough Arch-Tempered Rey Dau parts.
As for offensive options, the Arch-Tempered Rey Dau is weak to Water and Ice-based attacks. While it isn’t as susceptible to status ailments as other monsters like the Quematrice or Lala Barina, the Rey Dau can be inflicted with Poison, Sleep, Blastblight, and Exhaust (it is also prone to Paralysis and Stun to a lesser extent.)
Defeating an Arch-Tempered Rey Dau will earn you bragging rights, multiple unique monster materials, and a Rey Dau Certificate γ that allows you to craft the new Rey Dau γ armor pieces for your hunter and Felyne Rey Dau γ armor pieces for your Palico, both of which have increased Thunder resistance and unique armor perks (the hunter armor also comes with more decoration slots.) Unfortunately, there are currently no new weapons that can be crafted from Arch-Tempered Rey Dau parts.
