You’ve heard of pay-to-win weapons, gear, and cosmetics, but Monster Hunter Wilds has unintentionally put its own spin on pay-to-win emotes with its Photo Poses. It turns out that by striking specific poses in the middle of a fight, players can avoid certain monster attacks.
To add some context, the player above uses the Vanish Sign pose – part of the Monster Hunter Wilds Photo Pose Set Vol. 1 – to completely avoid a Mizutsune’s horizontal water beam. Whereas most players would either block or dodge, using the Vanish Sign is as easy as selecting the pose from your Radial Menu. I’m honestly surprised they didn’t open Photo Mode to capitalize on the moment.
While some players question the inclusion of paid content that makes the game slightly easier, many are expressing delight and astonishment that the pose shows just how accurate Monster Hunter Wilds hitboxes are. Considering players have to pay extra for certain cosmetics on top of the base game, those poses are starting to seem like they’re worth it.

Other examples of paid poses and gestures that change your hunter’s hitbox are the “Shinobi Pose” which also levitates you mid-air, and the “This Can’t Be…” and “Celebratory Knee” gestures, both of which lower your Hunter so they can avoid high attacks.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
