Bandai Namco Holdingsā financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2026 donāt just include a breakdown of its different divisionsā earnings; they also include details about how much money the company is making from each of its IPs. In the first quarter, Mobile Suit Gundam was Bandaiās highest-selling IP, with revenue increasing by 81.2% year-on-year. Total sales amounted to 65.4 billion JPY (around $443 million USD), which, according to GameBiz, marks a record high for the franchise.Ā
According to Bandai Namco’s statement, the recently opened Gundam Next Future Pavilion at Osaka Expo, as well as the success of the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime have expanded the franchiseās fanbase and subsequently led to increased revenue growth. More specifically, box office earnings for the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX compilation film (which includes the TV seriesā first three episodes and the first half of the eighth episode), video distribution and product and service licensing (i.e. streaming services), Gunpla model kits, and revenue from the new SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL mobile game are the key factors in the Gundam IPās recent success.Ā
As opposed to Gundam, other major Bandai Namco IPs like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Kamen Rider, Naruto, and Ultraman saw decreases in revenue during the same fiscal period. Should Bandai Namco ever find itself in trouble, it can always bank on the popularity of giant mechs.Ā Ā
