Metal Gear Solid producer reveals the future of the MGS series
During his appearance on Konami’s Metal Gear Production Hotline yesterday, Metal Gear Solid series producer Noriaki Okamura responded to fans’ requests for a brand-new entry to the popular stealth franchise. Okamura also spoke about updates for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 as well as what we can expect from Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (Related Article).
The Metal Gear series began in 1987 on the Japanese home computer system MSX2, but it was 1998’s PlayStation 1 release Metal Gear Solid that kicked off the tactical espionage action series’ global success. The Metal Gear Solid games became known for their in-depth stories, memorable characters, anti-war sentiment, long cinematic cutscenes and commentary on real-life issues. Despite their continued popularity, 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (pictured above) was the last new entry in the series, with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima leaving Konami that same year.
Last October, Konami released the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, an anthology of all the series’ entries up until Metal Gear Solid 3, playable on modern consoles. However, the release was plagued by many issues at launch, leading to criticism from series fans. Last year, Konami also announced a full-blown remake of MGS3. Entitled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, it is set to be released sometime in 2024.
At the end of the March 20 discussion with current series producer Noriaki Okamura, he was asked if they are working on a brand-new entry to the series, or whether they plan to do so in the future. Addressing the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid 6, Okamura said “That’s a tough question,” adding that he would like to fully focus on making and delivering the MGS3 remake first; “I would like to make a really good game (with the remake).” His comments suggest that if Delta is a success, this could open the door for future entries to the Metal Gear Solid series.
Metal Gear Solid Delta is scheduled to be released in 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series S|X and PC (Steam).
That is the correct answer. But i have a feeling that MGS Delta is not going to do that well because it seems like it’s just focused too much on graphics and does not have the Hideo Kojima touch with camera, art direction and various things that he would know how to do. It’s kind of a similar problem with Silent Hill 2 Remake as well. Without the original creators, something is lost, unless there is a visionary that can bring these franchises back to life.
