Marvel Rivals’ upcoming Clash of Dancing Lions limited-time mode bears uncanny resemblance to Overwatch 2’s Lúcioball

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Marvel Rivals will be holding its Spring Festival event from January 23, 9 am to February 14, 9 am UTC. The event includes new cosmetics for Star-Lord, Iron Fist, and Black Widow, free earnable rewards, and the new Clash of Dancing Lions limited-time mode. While the rules of the game mode have yet to be fully revealed, Clash of Dancing Lions looks very similar to Lúcioball from Overwatch 2.

What is Lúcioball?

Lúcioball is an Overwatch 2 limited-time event where two teams comprised of three Lucio players each play to get an absurdly large soccer ball into the enemy team’s even larger goal. The game takes inspiration from Rocket League in that players can use Lucio’s abilities to gain advantages when scoring points or defending the goal. The team that scores the most goals at the end of the game or has five more points than the enemy team at any given time wins.

Marvel Rivals Clash of Dancing Lions

Clash of Dancing Lions looks exactly like Lúcioball

Based on the Spring Festival Trailer, it looks as though the Clash of Dancing Lions game mode is copying Lúcioball’s homework. Instead of three music-powered Lucios, two teams will each have a Star-Lord, Iron Fist, and Black Widow duking it out. Most ranged attacks seem to be disabled, so instead of shooting each other, players will have to use their melee abilities to knock opponents and steal the ball. The ball can be passed to fellow teammates, adding a layer of complexity and strategy to the mode.

Completing event missions and challenges during the Spring Festival rewards players with Danquing – a dye that can be used to add color to the event’s Gallery Card. Like the Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, customizing the Gallery Card awards you with free cosmetics (including the Lion’s Mane Star-Lord costume) and a personalized in-game souvenir once the event is over.

Those who want to obtain Black Widow’s Lion’s Heartbeat and Iron Fist’s Lion’s Gaze costumes can buy them either as solo purchases or as a bundle that comes with an extra “Blessing Lion” nameplate from the game’s store.

Marvel Rivals is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). The Spring Festival will be playable from January 23, 9 am to February 14, 9 am UTC.
