Before you spend money or any of the in-game currencies on Marvel Rivals cosmetics, NetEase Games announced that it will be adding new color options for some costumes and introducing the ability to gift cosmetics to friends. Both features will be added to the game once Season 2 begins next week on April 11, 12 am UTC.
Free recolors for select costumes are coming
According to Creative Director Guangguang, color options will be available for some of the more popular costumes and allow players to customize their favorite superheroes’ looks further.

Psylocke’s Vengeance costume, which has a default purple, black, and red color scheme, was shown alongside a purple, white, and gold variant. Similarly, Luna Snow’s default Mirae 2099 costume which is predominantly white, purple, and pink, will come with an alternate white, blue, and aqua recolor. As both of these costumes are paid cosmetics, it remains to be seen if any of the previous free costumes (such as those earned from in-game events, Season Passes, Twitch Drops, and the default superhero costumes) will be getting new color options too.
Gifting costumes lets players spread the love
Speaking of paid cosmetics, players will now be able to gift cosmetics found in the in-game Store. Gifting cosmetics and bundles costs the same as purchasing them for yourself, but a daily limit of five gifts is implemented to prevent overspending. Guangguang says that gifting will “foster better communication and interaction among friends” within Marvel Rivals.

With two new superheroes and tons of changes on the way (Emma Frost will be joining the roster on April 11, followed by Ultron in the mid-season patch), Marvel Rivals is gearing up for its most stylish season yet. Those who don’t want to spend money on cosmetics can still continue not to, but it helps to know that being a good friend can potentially earn you a free gift from your comrades.
Marvel Rivals is available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
